The Honor was Ours

James T. Herron, Jr.

Canonsburg’s Fourth of July Committee put on its 38th annual celebration this year. Chairman Steve Zemencik, Co-Chair Manual Pihakis, and committee did their usual bang-up job. The Jefferson College Historical Society was honored by being named Grand Marshal of the parade.

Representing the historical society in the parade were officers Paul Katrencik, Lois Ahwesh, and Jim Herron. Tom Lenco, wearing a patriotic get-up, provided the transportation, his immaculate white Mustang convertible. He even had an umbrella to protect the seats during a brief misty rain.

Tony Colaizzo rode in his first parade as mayor.

It is fitting that Representative Tim Solobay rode on an old American LaFrance fire engine. His wife, Karen, embellished the open cab.

Council President Joe Gowern was the parade's anouncer. He still looks like a track coach.
