We are fortunate in Washington County to have several biographical histories at our disposal. There are five ways to get access to these books:
  1. Copies of these books can be found in the genealogy section at Citizens Library in Washington, PA and in the genealogy collections of most major libraries throughout the country.
  2. These books have been microfilmed and many major libraries have these films on hand in their genealogy departments.
  3. The LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, aka Mormon) have them available at their local LDS Family History Centers where they may be ordered and viewed.
  4. They are also available for rent from the Hoenstine Rental Library.
  5. Purchase the ones that have been reprinted from one of several genealogical book vendors.

Crumrine, Boyd, History of Washington County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches of Many of Its Pioneers and Prominent Men (Philadelphia: L. H. Everts and Co., 1882).
This work contains an account of Washington County's early history of Washington County. There are separate chapters for each of the original townships. The township chapters are full of genealogical information of the pioneer families who settled there starting in the late 1790's. The work is interspersed with biographical sketches on disguised people from the county

Beers, J. H. and Co., Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania (Chicago: J. H. Beers & Co., 1893), 1468 pages. Separate index available.
This massive work contains biographical sketches of some 2500 citizens of Washington County in the late 1890's. It includes portrait drawings of many subjects. This work is an excellent source, especially if you need to establish family relationships or you need to determine where a family moved migrated from or to.

McFarland, Joseph F., 20th Century History of the City of Washington and Washington County, Pennsylvania (Chicago: Richmond-Arnold Publishing Co., 1910), 1369 pages.
Another history of Washington County, including biographical sketches of some 800 persons. This book is a nice supplement to the Beers work as it was written 20 years later.
Clark, S. J., History of Washington County, Pennsylvania (Chicago: The S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1926). Two volumes.
