    You will want to give the mail sorter some direction on which office to send your letter to. For instance:

    • Recorder of Deeds (for land records)
    • Register of Wills (for wills)

      The following messages is from the Courthouse: " Research requests of this nature have increased to the point we must be compensated for our time. Therefore, this office has established a minimum fee of $10.00 PER NAME payable to REGISTER OF WILLS. This fee is charged whether or not a search is successful. We will inform you of any detailed information we have located and mail copy of same to you. Also, please include a long, self-addressed stamped envelope with your request. Keep in mind that due to the heavy demand for research, there may be a delay. Please be patient with us."

    • Clerk of the Orphan's Court (old birth/death/marriage records)

Birth records are $4.00 each and death records are $3.00 each. Expect 4-6 turnaround. Be sure to provide a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) and expect a 4-6 week turnaround. Marriage records are kept at the county level (see the vital statistics page).

The fee for searching for the Social Security Number Application (Form SS-5) when the Social Security number is provided is $7.00. When the number is unknown but identifying information is provided the fee is $16.50. The search fee is charged even if they are unable to locate or disclose any information.
