The Raymond M. Bell Anthology

Adam Clemens (of German Origin)
born c1754 d Jun 24-1824 Donegal Twp, Washington Co, Pa (newspaper)
m c1784 Catharine --- b c1764 living 1830 (census)

Adam's obiturary says he was a Revolutionary soldier. An Adam Clemens served in the Lancanster Co, Pa militia 1781.

He first appears in Hopewell Twp (now Independence) near Donegal in the 1790 census with 2 sons and one daughter. In 1791 he was taxed in Hopewell. He took out a land patent in 1800 in Hopewell. By mistake it was made out to Abraham Clemens (no relation) who deeded the land to Adam. In the 1800 county census Adam was in Donegal. He bought a farm on Dutch Fork creek in 1803, on which he was living in 1795. It had belonged to Henry Fullenwider, Jr. Adam's children are named in the Account papers A44 1827.

(Adam may have had a brother, Nicholas 1749-1828, who lived in Amwell and Strabane Twps 1784-1814. Adam's father may have been the Nicholas Clemens, who landed at Philadelphia Sep 15-1748. Pa German Pioneers.)
