In an article in the KEYHOLE, XI, 109 (July 1983) data was given on two 
Michael Elys. After this was published the baptismal record for most of the 
children of one of them was found at the Bindnagel Lutheran Church, North 
Londonderry Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. (See Egle's NOTES AND 
QUERIES, Series III, vol 2, 237.)

There were two Michael Elys (relation unknown) about the same age. One 
called "Jr"' a blacksmith, was in what is now Buffalo Township, Washington 
County by 1778. He moved west about 1799 and was in Delaware County, Ohio in 
1809. The other called "Sr" moved from Londonderry Township, now Lebanon 
County, to Buffalo Township about 1789 and died in Buffalo in 1819. Both men 
are in the tax lists, the 1790 census and the 1798 Direct Tax (on houses). 
Their relation to George Ely of nearby Finley Township is unknown.

The following data are found for Michael Ely "Jr": 
June 1778 on Ohio Co (Va) tax list - this is now Buffalo Twp 
June 1779 signed call for Rev. Joseph Smith 
Nov 1779 on Ohio Co militia list 
1782 private in Capt Eleazar Williamson's company 
1783 taxed for 100 acres, 1 horse, 3 cows, 6 sheep 
1790 census - 1 son under 16, 5 daughters 
1798 house worth $20 
1800 Dec 17 "late of Washington County", sold blacksmith tools 
1809 at Sunbury, Ohio 
1822 to Cardington, Ohio, where he died a few years later

Michael Ely "Jr" b c1752 m c1775 likely Christina Wolf b Nov 25-1754, daughter 
of Peter Wolf, who was in (now) East Hanover Twp, Dauphin County in 1775. Their 
known children were: 
Peter Ely b 1787 m Elizabeth --- in Matteson, Wis in 1872 
Christian 
Rosanna b 1793 d 1870 Delaware Co, Ohio m John Williamson

The following data are found for Michael Ely "Sr": 
1779-82 taxed in Londonderry Twp, now Lebanon County 
1790 in Buffalo Twp, Washington Co with 3 young sons and 6 daughters 
1791 Apr 11 "late of Dauphin (now Lebanon) County" bought farm adjoining 
Lawrence Stricker and Hardman Horn 
1802 Mar 5 Ely, Horn and Stricker sold land for a church 
until 1819 when he died, listed on tax records - 1798 house $40

In the will of Michael Ely "Sr", probated Dec 24-1819 all the children listed 
below are named except John. In the estate papers is the phrase "if John should 
claim a share". When the will was written in 1816, his wife (Anna) Mary was 
dead. The estate was not settled until 1834. Michael "Sr" was married about 
1772. Children:
