Text of Message: > My gg-uncle, Matthew McConaughy, contributed an article for publication in this book, (pg.642). I have the original receipt for payment of the inclusion of a lithographic portrait of his father, Alexander. It is dated Jan. 19 1893, McDonald P.O., Penn. and reads as follows; " In consideration of their undertaking the publication of an illustrated work entitled COMMEMORATIVE BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, and in furtherance thereof, I hereby authorize J. H. BEERS & CO. to reserve space for and insert in said work a lithographic portrait of Alexander McConaughy (died) for which I promise to pay to them, or order, Eighty Five Dollars, payment to be made on publication of said volume and delivery of fifteen (Matthew crossed out the fifteen and penned in 50) extra copies of said portrait to me, or at my residence or place of business. I also agree to furnish the photograph within ten days from date hereof. Book not included in this contract."
> It is signed M. McConaughy, Robinson Township. I have no information on the cost of the book, but the copy of this tome that was given to my mother was produced from the highest quality materials available then.
> If indeed he got the fifty copies the only one that survived the ages is that portrait in the book.
Is there additional information about Matthew McConaughy's son John? I'm looking for my ancestor John, b. 1795 in Chester Co. PA, who lived later in Washington Co.
