Text of Message:		I have a copy of the 1794 oaths of allegiance that my ancestor John Sutherland, Jr. signed and I was wondering its purpose. I cannot determine whether it was a measure taken by the government to reign in the rebels or whether it was something everyone would have signed or whether it was just for US soldiers. All the oaths seam to have been signed at the end of the year. Is this significant? Anyone with some info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
