Lookups in the "Pennsylvania Archives"

The Pennsylvania Archives is a publication of 119 volumes broken into ten series. They were published in 1852 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Click here or a brief description of what each series contains as outlined at the Pennsylvania State Archives department.

Among other things, the archives also contain colonial records, Minutes of the Provinicial council and the Council of Safety.Some of the volumes contain early land records 1680-1780. Heads of households,and tax lists are listed 1760-1800.

The archives also contain rosters of the Revolutionary War (1775-1784?), the War of 1812, (1812-1814) and the Mexican War (1846-1848). Names of people applying for a war pension are also included. When requesting information I can find the regiment, company, commanding officers and enlisted men. The archives do not contain individual service records or pension files. These records are indexed.

Please understand, only reasonable requests for lookups can be entertained. What is a reasonable request? One that contains:

• A full name for the lookup, first and last.
• A relative time period for the event being searched.
• In the case of war information, the name of the war.

Allow one week for a response.
