    Looking for the parents: Jennie MC CLUGAGE & James MC ALISTER
    of daughter HANNAH ANNE MC ALISTER WILLIAMS (b. 1857.) From Hannah's death certificate, we find that her parents were born in PA and named JAMES MC ALISTER and JENNIE MC CLUGAGE, and that she was born in Peters Township of the county. I have found both of these surnames [Mc Clugage & Mc Alister]in the 1830 census records of Peters Twp. I find entries for a George & John McClugage family, and an Archibald Mc Alister family. I believe it is possible that James McAlister is from the one family, and his future wife Jennie McClugage is the daughter of either George or John McClugage. Anyone out there with any early records in the township or Washington county that might help me? Is there anyone else researching these lines?

    "For his second wife Alexander Flack was married to Lillie Ann McAlister, of Peters township, a daughter of John McAlister, who, with his father, Archibald McAlister, emigrated from County Antrim, Ireland, about 1800, and settled first in Chester county, Penn., and in 1802 removed with his parents to Washington county.
    John McAlister was married to Isabelle McAllister, a resident of County Antrim, Ireland, who bore him seven children, namely:
    Archie, Nancy, Mary, Lillie Ann, John, Hannah, and James, all of whom are now deceased. Lillie Ann McAlister was reared to womanhood in Peters township."
    -My List of Coincidences:
    I am very interested in this line, as I have an ancestor named JAMES MC ALISTER who lived in Peters Twp. of Washington county,
    and he had a daughter named Hannah Anne, who was born in Peter's Twp, according to her 1925 obit notice.
    What a coincidence! My great-grandmother[HANNAH ANNE MC ALISTER WILLIAMS] could well have been named after two of his father's sisters, as shown in the list above.
    Now, got to find the link from my James & Hannah Anne to the above line…I would be so very happy to finally nail this line down! Anyone have any clues for me?

    A book, "A Voice to the Married," dated 1841, has been passed down in our family. At the front of the book there is a completed marriage record. The groom is a man from Anarundel Co., MD, by the last name of Reynolds. The first name is difficult to read. The bride is a Margaret Gordon of Washington Co., PA. The witnesses were William King and Maggie Martin. The marriage was performed 6 May 1846 by John Kerr. Our relationship is through the witness Maggie Martin. I am trying to identify all of these people and to better understand their relationships. Can anyone help?

    I'm looking for ancestry information on Thomas Edward DOWLER, born 21 April 1839, in Marshall County, (West) Virginia. He married his first wife, Catharine JOHNSTON, in Buffalo Village, Washington County, Pennsylvania, 08 January 1868. He was enlisted 23 September 1862, at Camp Willy by Capt. Work. At that time his post office was West Middletown, Washington County, PA. After serving he moved with his wife to Cooper County, Missouri, where Catharine died, leaving him with 2 children, Fannie Buchanan DOWLER and George Washington DOWLER. He married twice more in Missouri, his second wife, Mary Elizabeth WALTERMIRE nee FRUCHEY bearing a daughter, my grandmother, Sadie Eunice DOWLER. Later he married Susie A. EVANS nee WENSLEY. Second and third marriages followed the deaths of the former wives.
    I know T.E. DOWLER's parents were Joseph "J." DOWLER, born in Virginia, and Hannah FRAZER. I have found their family listed in the U.S. Census records of 1860, in Pennsylvania, Washington County, Hopewell Township, P.O. West Middletown, Call No. 1192, Page 100, Dwelling No. 778, Family No. 735. Here, Joseph (age 50) and Hannah (age 47) are listed as being born in Virginia and Pennsylvania, respectively. Their children are listed as George W. (23), Thomas E. (21, my g-grandfather), Rachel (19), Mary J. (15), Amanda (14), and Sarah E. (11). Joseph, George and Thomas are listed as farmers.
    I am very interested in this family and the DOWLER and FRAZER lines on back. DOWLERs seem to be all around in Marshall County, (W)V, and Washington County, PA. I would like information on complete family groups, if possible, and tracing back on male and female lines.

    The subject, George B McClelland Couch was my great grandfather. He was born in 1862, died in 1916 and is buried in Robinson's Run Cemetery in McDonald, Pa. McDonald is on the county line between Allegheny County and Washington County.
    He married Mary Ann Carson on Feb 22, 1883 at Robinson Run Church. She was born in Ireland in 1862, died at Oakmont, PA in1938. Their headstone indicates the following children:

    Infant daughter 1896 - 1896
    Samuel Judson 1902 - 1914

    Seeking info about ancestry of Hardman HORN, b. 1747, place unknown, d. 1811, Washington Co. Married Elizabeth HOUGH, b. 1748, d. 1823, Knox Co. OH. Elizabeth possibly the daughter of an Abigah HOUGH, d. 1798, Washington Co., and Catherine Black. Hardman was one of three brothers (John, Christopher) who emigrated to the US around 1753, parents unknown. Jacob Miller Sr, b. ca 1722, d. 1782, and Jacob Miller Jr, b. 1762, d.1830 in Washington Co. and are buried in the old Miller Burying Ground in West Alexander. Jacob Sr. possibly emigrated from Switzerland, parents unknown, and married someone named Mary, according to her tombstone. Jacob Jr. was m. to Anna Mary Leffler, daughter of Jacob Leffler and Elizabeth Hewit, all of Buffalo Twp. I have Dr. Raymond Bell's reports on these families but wonder if anyone has traced them back further.

Her daughter was married in the Wash Co. courthouse in 1909, though I don't believe she lived there for any period of time. I could never figure out why she chose Wash Co., since she lived in Pgh at the time. But then I ran across the 1910 Penn. Negro Business Directory which listed the WC "colored" pop. at 3,000, several black-owned businesses and a few prominent citizens with names like Lewis and N. J. Mosebay, Geo. Brooks, James Tobias, John Ware, G. G. Fields and Powhatan Bolden. If anyone knows of someone who is knowledgeable about this topic, I would welcome hearing from him or her. Thanks.

    about a Christopher Buttler...who headed Buttler
    Art Glass Co. in Fostoria, Ohio. Before coming to
    Ohio, he was listed as living in Washington, PA.
    The year he came to Ohio was 1887. He had a patent for glass in 1886, and I believe he lived
    in Washington, PA at that time. The spelling with
    two "t's" is correct and may be helpful in your
