Family oral (& writen) history indicates that an Arthur Patterson came from N. Ireland to thje Chambersburg Pa area (with some relatives - possible Brother Charles). There he married and raised a family. My gr. gr. gr. Grandfather John Patterson born 1760 in PA and his older borther Thomas went to Nottingham Twn. WAshington Co. PA where they bought land in the 1780s and raised large families. I have John & Brother Thomas well documented once they got to Wash. Co. My John married in 1790 a Mary Caldwell , born 1776. I have documentation on Mary's family back two generations.

Problem- after entensive research I can not find any parents of place of birth that match John & Thomas. I cannot find any Arthur Pattesons in the Chambersburg area at the right time period that seems to be parents of my guys.

I recently sent letters to 32 families withj Patterson surnames in Chambersburg with genealogy info & return envelopes. So far I've gotten one vague phone call and one I don't know anything letter. Perhaps my connection is with someone else from the 62 Pattersons listed in the local directory. I believe that most of these Pattersons in that area are interrelated and go back to the time when my guys were bron & raised in the area. Surely someone of these families must have some family tree data on their backgrounds that might be my missing puzzle piece. It is very possible that the parent I"m seeking isn't really named Arthur.
