My dad is 3 lines above the Joseph you have listed.-Sorry. My dad's ss# 389-28-7808 date of birth 4-24-1926. Death July 1982. Last known address is Oakland California. At the time of my dad's birth 1926, there were 7 living siblings. So, we know for sure that there are brothers and sisters out there.

He came to California from when he was 15, married my mom when he was 34, Dec. 28 (I think) 1957, they got the license earlier. They we went to Nevada several months earlier but interracial marriages weren't allowed, so that's why we got married in Oakland. My mom and dad had 3 kids, and divorced. He married another woman, had 3 more kids, died. And neither woman knows much about his ancestry. He is said to be adopted, but who is to say he was really adopted. Especially when I got the copy of the birth certificate and it said she had 7 other living children. I thought, then why would she give up my dad. Daddy never really talked about his past, and no one ever asked. I do know that my mom said he served in the Military. I can find out more about that if needed. But my dad was black, he did not have any features to be of mixed race. But when I got his birth certificate, it said both parents were white. Actually, his mom race looked as though someone had started to write BL, but wrote over it and changed it to WHITE. On my birth certificate, it said both parents were listed as white too. I questioned my mom (who is white), and she said that is what the hospital put on the birth certificate. All the women my dad ever dated, or married were all white. He was a truck driver all his life, so he says. Since my mom was an only child, we are have no relatives. Now as an adult and a parent of 3 boys, I keep thinking to myself, we had to have belong to someone. Someone out there had to have known my dad when he was little. I just remembered something too, my dad used to go by the name JoJo, if that helps any. He also said he was raised in Wisconsin and left there to California when he was 15. He was a truck driver all his life. And I think my mom did say he served in W.W.II. I was able to find some info. while searching the Social Security Index. It gave me the last city each person lived in when they died. I just wish I knew more. My dad did have a daughter from a different woman before my mom, and the daughters name was Peggy. I think her middle name was Jean, she should be about 44 or somewhere around that age. My father met her mother and my mother in Oregon. A bit more I think you should know about Cynthia: Growing up in the 60's and 70's, kids in school used to tease me and call me half breed, zebra, inside out Oreo cookie. As a child when our family used to go places together, people would stare at us, and make terrible comments because my mother was white and daddy black. Now days people don't even take a second look. I was never ashamed of my father, he was knight in shinning amour. I remember when Martin Luther King was killed, I was attending a basically all black school. And I remember being taken out of the class and taken to the principal office with all the white kids. I asked why am I in here with these kids. And the principal said for our safety. I thought, so how come there are no black kids in here. Now as an adult, I realized, they thought I was white. My Downings and Lauglins were at or near Old Fort Redstone circa 1775-76. My Cowell ancestor, Elizabeth, was in Whitely twp, Greene County, PA as were my Bowers ancestors. The Hunter family is a real mystery. They are said to have lived in Wahsington or Greene County and later moved to the W.VA. panhandle in Berkeley County. My oldest known ancestor was Lewis Hunter, b. 1801 presumably in Berkeley Co, W.VA. Among his first born sons were George and John Sloan Hunter. Any information other researchers have will be appreciated. I have a great deal of additional Hunter information from Virginia and Ohio. Thanks

In the "History of the Pan-Handle, West Virginia" this being a Historical Collections of the counties of Ohio, Brooke, Marshall and Hancock, W.Va. published by J.A. Caldwell 1879. There was the article: GEORGE McCOMBS- Mr.McCombs was born in County Derry, Ireland, and immigrated to America before the revolutionary war, leaving his family behind him, in Emerald Isle, with the intention of returning for them. But the high seas being blocked at time, he was compiled to stay. He enlisted in the American army, and braved the trials and hardships of a true soldier, until the close of the war. The blockade being raised, he sent for his family, who joined him soon after. He settled in Washington county, Pennsylvania, and remained there until his death. His family then moved to Ohio county, Va. (W.Va), about the year 1800. His two sons, James and John, grew up to be men of unusual size, James being considered the most muscular man in the state. James and John both were married here, and each had a family of twelve children. Many of the families are still living in Sherrard, Marshall County. John joined the Presbyterian church when quite young and was a devout christian. In my notes:George and wife Martha is buried in Cannonsburg, Pa. about 1818. George had a Will in Chartiere Township, Washington Co. Pa. James McCombs married Hannah Smith and John McCombs 1783-1865 married Rachel Buchanon. My gg grandmother was Rachel McCombs b. 1820 in Sherrard, Marshall County, Va (W.Va.) Who are her parents? Rachel McCombs married William Carr in 1835. I know she had a brother George McCombs.
