This is a first for me! While looking for my ancestors I have been to _many_
GenWeb pages - and your's is the very best I have found! I especially like
the history, which gives me a real feel for the complex changes taking
place in south-western PA in the 1700s. I have folks in VA, WVA, PA and
OH and I have been attempting to learn the "folk history", if I can call
it that. I have never written to a webmaster before, but to you I have
to send a *big* thank you for a fabulous job. Keep up the good work. You

I was able to trace a number or relatives after looking in your web site.
I fonbd on page 888 of the Beers transcription, a story about a relative.
The REV W. B. Smiley's ancestor, John Smiley is my direct ancestor. This
find on the internet led me to visit Washington County and the Librarry.
I spent 6 hours and a roll of quarters in the copy machine adding to my
family tree. Thanks to all those who helped transcribe the Beers into the
net. It was a great lead for me.

I would like to say that you have done outstanding job with your GenWeb
site. I wish more of them were like this, lots of information and graphically
pleasing to the eye. I especially liked the Beer's Online. The only problem
is I don't actually have any direct ancestors from Washington County (That

Your Web Site led me to a lead about a JAMES REYNOLDS, born in Washington
Co, Penns. in 1800. It said he was the son of WILLIAM & NANCY. A few
days later, in the snail mail, a packet from on older cousin arrived with
lots of info. She provided the necessary info to show that my great, great
grandfather was named JAMES REYNOLDS and that his dad had been WILLIAM.
She had a birthdate for JAMES as 1800 too. So, these two pieces of the
puzzle matched up & slid neatly into place. And now my cousin also
gets to learn that our great, great, great grandmother was named NANCY,
same as me.
I am most pleased to learn
that I am named after someone after all, even though my parents didn't
know it at the time. I don't know if her middle name was the same as mine,
but I'm still basking in the enjoyment of having a namesake. -- Nancy Ann

I would like to take the time to let you know a SUCCESS STORY !!!!! My
mother's parents were divorced when my mother was young. She did not know
much information on her father's family history. I contacted the cemetary
where her father is burried and was able to get his parents names from
the graves where he also is burried. After receiving this information,
I searched the Washington County surnames. I found a match in YOUR records
and e-mailed Cherie, a distant cousin. She was able to provide me with
several more generations of my family search!!!!!!!I wish to take the time
to thank you and the volunteers of this web site for making this possible
for me. Through all this I was able to locate the name of a family ancestor
whom was a Captain in the American Revolutionary War and other family members
that served under him. I thank you so very much for this vast amount of
