James L. Cox, 78, of 206 Baltimore Avenue, North Franklin Township, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, and Prosperity, died Tuesday, November 18, 1997, at home following a brief illness. Mr. Cox was a former steel worker and later worked as a driver for the former Peter Pan Cleaners. He was a member of AAA auto club and a former member of VFW Post 927 of Washington. Mr. Cox was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes. He was twice married. His first wife, Tiny Pearl Thompson Cox died October 22, 1952. On August 10, 1958, he married Mary L. Corbin Burgess, who died March 4, 1991. Surviving are two sons, Raymond L. Cox of Williamsburg, Va., and Edgar E. Cox of Chesapeake, Va.; a daughter, Ruby Janice Cox Gray of Muse; five stepsons, James P. Moss, Larry, David and Walter Burgess, all of Washington and Clyde Burgess of Charleroi; five stepdaughters, Mary Wood of Ohio, Bessie Crawford, Glenora Aloia and Phyllis Jean Miller, all of Washington, and Judy Barton of Finleyville; two sisters, Betty Stetson of Washington and Florence Daniels of Bentleyville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
