William C. "Peck" Johnston, 84, of McDonald, died Wednesday, December 3, 1997, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Johnston was a 1931 graduate of McDonald High School and a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where he lettered as a guard on the football team. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Johnston was a mechanical engineer. During his life, he worked for several companies, including Universal, McGraw-Edison and Koppers (Kobuta Plant). He retired from Babcock and Wilcox, Beaver Falls, in 1966. Mr. Johnston was a life member of the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the McDonald American Legion Post 485, the McDonald VFW Post 567, the McDonald Belgium Club and Trinity Presbyterian Church, McDonald. On January 19, 1937, he married Grace McKee, who died October 19, 1993. Surviving are two sons, John Johnston of DeLand, Fla., and Ross Johnston of McDonald; a daughter, Marilou Ritchie of McDonald; a sister, Mildred Cobbett of McDonald; five grandchildren, Kurt Ritchie, Jennifer Dolfi and Kim, Emily and Heidi Johnston; and four great-grandchildren.
