John H. McDowell Jr., 82, of East Washington, formerly of Hickory, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, in Washington Hospital. Mr. McDowell was a member of Mt. Prospect United Presbyterian Church, Hickory, a member of the Hickory Lions Club, Indian Springs Rod and Gun Club, served as a member of Mt. Prospect Cemetery Board and attended Hickory High School. He enjoyed golfing. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was a truck driver for Russell Industries, Bridgeville. On December 25, 1937, in Hickory, he married Myrtle Neil, who survives. Also surviving are a son, John Howard McDowell III of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mary Jo Williams of McMurray; two granddaughters, Cathleen Danley Seybert and Gretchen Lynn Danley; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, James McDowell, who was killed in World War II; and two sisters, Sally Davis and Katherine James.
