Retired foreman at J&L Steel Tin Mill

Charles (Chuck) Edwin Read, 71, of Hopewell, died Monday, March 30, 1998, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Beaver Valley.

He was born September 12, 1926, in Washington, son of the late Charles Lee and Mildred Frazier Read.

Mr. Read had been a 45-year resident of Hopewell.

He was a retired foreman from J&L Steel Tin Mill and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Ohio United Presbyterian Church, Hopewell Township; a member of the Lions Club, Hopewell; the BPO Elks 1221, Aliquippa.

He was a choir member and former elder at Ohio United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed golfing.

His wife of 50 years, Kate Hall Read, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sandy Schwarz of Economy Borough and Nancy Bongiovanni of Medina, Ohio; six grandchildren, Suzanne Price, Lori Holcomb, Katie Walden, Philip A. Bongiovanni, Sam Bongiovanni and Sarah Bongiovanni; a brother, Phillip Read of Hookstown; two sisters, Alice Cunningham of Washington and Ruth Simpson of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
