George Contos, 87, of 12 North Main Street, Canonsburg, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, where he was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church; Thomas Vlachos AHEPA Chapter 156; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191; American Legion Post 553; and the Greater Canonsburg Senior Citizens. Prior to his retirement, he was a pipe and steam fitter in the construction industry and was a member of the Pipe and Steam Fitter's Union Local 449 of Pittsburgh. Mr. Contos served with the United States Army in Germany during World War II. On August 27, 1944, in Ambridge, he married Lillian Poutous, who died January 10, 1997. Surviving are two sons, William Contos of Oakdale and Andrew Contos of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, David, George, Sandra, Michael, Tiffany and Hayley; and four great-grandchildren.
