John L. Dekteroff, 81, of Charleroi (Fallowfield Township), died at 5:46 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 1998, in the Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was a miner for Beth Energy Mines Corp., Ellsworth Mine 51. He had also worked at Marianna Mine 58. He was also formerly employed by Mayer Brothers Co. in Erie. Mr. Dekteroff was a member of UMWA Local 1197. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from October 1941 to September 1945. He had achieved the rank of sergeant while participating in the European Theater. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dekteroff of Charleroi; two sisters, Margaret Saniga of Richeyville and Violet Kim of Oceanside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Ocie Dekteroff; and two sisters, Pearl Nagy and Virginia Karlock. Arrangements in charge of Greenlee Funeral Home, Beallsville.
