Harry W. Schmitt, 71, of Avella (Blaine Township), died Thursday, July 30, 1998, in AUH-Allegheny General, Pittsburgh. Mr. Schmitt was an active member of Sacred Heart Worship Site of Immaculate Conception Parish. A graduate of Connelly Trade School, Pittsburgh, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1949. He was employed as a salesman for Black & Decker for 40 years until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Schmitt enjoyed woodworking. On September 17, 1955, in Pittsburgh, he married Mary Lou Aul, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Michael Schmitt of Columbus, Ohio, Harry Schmitt of Tucson, Ariz., and Raymond Schmitt of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, July Welch of Columbus, and Margaret and Sally Schmitt, both of Pittsburgh; a sister, Myrtle Rectenwald of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Amanda Welch and Jessica and Billy Schmitt; and several nieces and nephews.
