Herbert A. Gessler, 76, of 1355 Lexington Drive, Lawrence, died unexpectedly Friday, August 21, 1998. Mr. Gessler attended Carnegie Mellon University, University of Mississippi and graduated from Notre Dame University. He was a self-employed electrical engineer and owner and president of Gessler Corp. Mr. Gessler served with the U.S. Army, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifelong Canonsburg area resident and a member of St. Benedict the Abbott Church of McMurray, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. On January 29, 1948, he married Violet Papetti Gessler, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Mark Daniel Gessler and Matthew A. Gessler, both of Canonsburg and Herbert A. Gessler II of Venetia; two daughters, Heide A. Kissinger of Manassas, Va., and Holly Beth Kioalicas of Canonsburg; three brothers, Frank Gessler of Washington, Carl Gessler of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Ray Gessler of Ohatchee, Ala.; three sisters, Lillian Gessler of Canonsburg, Julia Kimes of Carmichaels and Lois Frank of Liberty, Miss.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
