Kenneth Austin Truby, 80, of Mineola Avenue, Washington, died at 12:45 p.m. Monday, August 24, 1998, in Manor Care Nursing Home, McMurray, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Truby was a member of First Lutheran Church, Washington. He was employed as an operator at Hazel-Atlas Glass Co. Plant No. 1 for 25 years, and was manager of the liquor store in Burgettstown for more than 14 years. He also owned and operated a coin shop on South Main Street in Washington. Mr. Truby was a 50-year member of the Order of DeMolay; a former member of Washington Lodge 164, F&AM; a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion; Hawkins Post Home 927, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22; and the YMCA. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Division in the European Theater and Rhone-Arno Theater, Northern Apennines and Po Valley. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and the Croix DeGurre with palm. On September 2, 1939, he married Hilda Aldene Toben, who died August 7, 1987. Surviving are a brother, Paul Eugene Truby of Washington; and four grandchildren, Michael Allan Truby, Robert Douglas Truby, Jon Edward Truby and Lisa Jo Fryman.
