David O. Johnson, 75, of Buffalo Township, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Mr. Johnson had been a resident of Buffalo Township for the past 50 years and was a member and former elder of Claysville United Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a technician fifth grade in the U.S. Army with the 479th Ordnance Evacuation Company. He served for 27 months in the European Theater. Mr. Johnson was employed as a special representative with Coen Oil Co. of Washington for 29 years prior to his retirement on March 31, 1985. After retiring and until his health began to fail, he and his wife established and operated National Pike Enterprises. He served on McGuffey School Board for 17 years and served as president of the board of Western Area Vocational-Technical School. He also was a former member of the Buffalo Township Zoning Hearing Board. Mr. Johnson was a member of James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639 of Claysville and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8319 of Washington. On August 25, 1946, he married Sara Lee Fordyce, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, David L. Johnson of Canonsburg and Richard D. Johnson of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Nancy Lee Racunas of Washington; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Asti and Christen, Stacie, Adam, Lauren and Seth Johnson.
