John "Rocky" Rockovich Sr., 101, of Westland, died Sunday, November 29, 1998, in the Greenery Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Canonsburg. Mr. Rockovich was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, and was a resident of Westland for the past 72 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. A retired coal miner, he had worked for Consol Mining Co. for 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and feeding birds. On May 30, 1918, he married Helen Zuder, who died August 6, 1963. Surviving are two sons, John Rockovich Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, and William Rockovich of Cecil; three daughters, Helen Richards of Canonsburg, Irene Popiolkowski of Canonsburg and Margaret Casper of Washington; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Charles Rockowath; and two great-great-grandchildren who died in infancy. For the past 32 years he made is home with Lee Pettit.
