Paul "Smoky" Smolak, 75, of South Street, New Eagle, died Wednesday, December 9, 1998, in Meade Manor, Monongahela. Mr. Smolak lived most of his life in New Eagle and was Protestant. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lock 3 of Elizabeth, and was employed by Pennsylvania Railroad at Shire Oaks from 1942 to 1963. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 455 of Monongahela. Surviving are his wife, Helen Boyd Smolak, with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage on June 11, 1998; a brother, Michael Smolak of Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister, Ann Dzvan of California; and several nieces and nephews.
