John (Jack) Gallagher Jr., 81, of Finleyville, died Saturday, December 19, 1998, in UPMC Medical Center, Pittsburgh. He retired from Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio, where he worked as an engineer. Mr. Gallagher was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart at Avaranches, France. He was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Henry M. Phillips Lodge 337 F&AM and was an honorary member of Unity Lodge 12 F&AM of Ravenna. He was a member of Monessen Royal Arch Chapter 290, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6664 of Library, a member of Frank Downer American Legion Post 302 of Monongahela and a member of Portage County FOPA Glen Kruger Lodge 9 of Kent, Ohio. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Williams Gallagher; three sisters, Dorothy Sosinsky of Lemont Furnace, Margaret Christman of Georgia and Blanche Jones of Ohio; a brother, James D. Gallagher of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Charles, Thomas and Joseph H. Gallagher.
