M.W. "Walt" Sobczak

Air Force retiree was American Legion member
Martin Walter "Walt" Sobczak, 73, of Canonsburg, died at 5 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 1998, in Forbes Hospice Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born May 15, 1925, in Canonsburg, a son of Martin Louis and Gertrude Zelinsky Sobczak.
He attended Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church and had spent the last 25 years in the Canonsburg area.
Mr. Sobczak was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 861 of Canonsburg, where he was in charge of bingo for many years; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg; and American Legion Post 902 of Houston, where he served on the honor guard for the past 10 years.
Mr. Sobczak retired from U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He served in World War II and the Korean War.
On February 15, 1987, he married Ruth D. Stevens Mickle, who survives.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Robert Mickle of Canonsburg and James Mickle of Erie; a brother, Raymond L. Sobczak of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
