Thomas Tharp, 93, of Wind Ridge, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 1998, in Franklin Care Center, Waynesburg, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Tharp was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, served on the Clerk of Sessions for more than 30 years, taught Sunday school for more than 50 years and served as an elder. He was a 1928 graduate of Richhill High School and earned his teaching certificate from Waynesburg College. Mr. Tharp was a former member of the Jacktown Fair Committee, where he served as a board member and as secretary/treasurer for more than 50 years. He was employed as a sales agent for Nationwide Insurance Co. for 27 years. He also was employed by the West Greene School District as an elementary school teacher for 39 years prior to his retirement June 1, 1969. On October 29, 1927, he married Nanna Belle Reigle Tharp, who died October 8, 1992. Surviving are a son, Thomas R. Tharp of Keisterville; a daughter, Betty Jo Bissett of Centerville; a brother, Everett L. Tharp of Eustis, Fla.; a half sister, Wilma Kinney Whiteman of Wind Ridge; and three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Lloyd and Foster Tharp; a sister, Doris Parson; and a half sister, Hallie Sauder. Retired teacher served on Jacktown Fair board
He was born October 20, 1905, in Aleppo Township, Greene County, a son of Thomas Michael Tharp and Laura Wendell Tharp Kinney Cooper. He had resided in Wind Ridge since 1920.
