James Robert Williams 73, of Euclid Avenue, Washington, died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Williams was last employed as a terminal manager for Jones Trucking Co. in Charlotte, N.C. He was a graduate of Grey High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., and a business college in Winston-Salem. He had been an instructor at a beauty school in Winston-Salem. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific theaterss. Mr. Williams was a was a member of N.C. American Legion Post 1981. In 1948, he married Vivian Juanita Shelby, who died May 29, 1963, and in 1965 he married Ila Lee Vernon, who died July 31, 1993. Surviving are two sons, Robert Phillip Williams of Winston-Salem and Wesley Parris Williams Sr. of Washington; three stepsons, Rodney Tuttle of Winston-Salem, Randy Tuttle of Concord, N.C., and Steve Tuttle; a brother, Joel Wesley Williams of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Samuel, Virginia and Wesley Jr.; and 10 stepgrandchildren. Deceased are two stepsons, Larry and Bruce Tuttle. Friends will be received at Wilkinson Funeral Home, Concord, N.C., followed by burial in West Concord Cemetery.
