Word has been received of the death of John C. Artemko, 71, of Allen Park, Mich., formerly of Canonsburg, who died Monday, November 23, 1998, of leukemia. Mr. Artemko was a 1944 graduate of Canonsburg High School. He joined the Merchant Marines prior to his enlistment in the Army where he was an assistant steward storekeeper on the U.S.A. H.S. Marigold, attaining the rank of corporal during World War II. After the war, he moved to Allen Park, where he spent 30 years working for Ford Motor Co. He was a member of Jefferson College Historical Society and the Early Engine Club. He was a Free Mason with Olive Branch Lodge 542. During his retirement, he was a volunteer at Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, where he operated trains during the holidays and a carousel during the summer. In addition to his wife, Ruth, surviving are two daughters, Dorthea and Deborah Artemko, both of Allen Park; and a son, John Artemko of Allen Park; one brother, Alex Artemko of Washington; two sisters, Pauline Luginski and Mary Kania, both of Canonsburg; and several grandchildren. Mr. Artemko's body was donated to University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the University of Michigan Cancer Center, Roland Hiss Research Fund, 1500 E.
