Donald J. "Ponto" Bendel Sr., 69, of Finleyville, died Saturday, December 5, 1998, in Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Pittsburgh. He worked as a machine operator in the construction business and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Bendel was a member of the American Legion Post 613 of Finleyville and the Hackett Club. On April 21, 1951, he married Anna Mae Tonecha, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Donald J. Bendel Jr. of Bentleyville; a daughter, Patricia Webster of Clinton, Ind.; three brothers, Richard Bendel of Rochester, Royce Bendel of Finleyville and John Elmer Bendel of Greeley, Colo.; six sisters, Peggy Clark and Henrietta Petrovich, both of Finleyville, Shirley Soncini of Floreffe, Leona Hunter of Princeton, W.Va., May Ottery of Charlotte Hall, Md., and Mary Rambo of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brian and Nicole Webster, and Derrek, Dustin and Devin Bendel; and many nieces and nephews.
