Charles Hugh Butera, 84, of Summerlea Avenue, Washington, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 1998, in Washington Hospital. Mr. Butera was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church. He was a former superintendent at Gateway Coal Co. and former superintendent of Oakmont Mine in Barking. He retired as assistant general manager of Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp.'s Coal Division. Mr. Butera enjoyed golf and gardening. On June 17, 1937, in New Kensington, he married Kathryn Buckner, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles L. and Ronald L. Butera, both of Washington; two brothers, Al Butera of Spotsylvania, Va., and Sam Lomando of Arnold; one sister, Carnella Nassick of New Kensington; five grandchildren, Charles R., Cindy L., Anthony M. and Justin M. He was born September 7, 1914, in Luzerne Mines, a son of Charles Butera and Margaret Dimino Butera Lomando.
