Sister Helen Marie (formerly known as Sister Joseph Marie) Taylor, 87, died Sunday, February 15, 1998, in the Provincial House infirmary of the Sisters of Divine Providence. She was a member of the order for 61 years. Sister Helen Marie earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in education from Duquesne University and spent more than 30 years teaching high school students in the Johnstown, Altoona and Pittsburgh Dioceses. In addition to teaching English and science, Sister Helen Marie influenced the lives of her students through her position as guidance counselor. She spent six years at Bishop McCort High School and 10 years at Canevin High School. She retired from teaching in 1987 and took up residence in the Provincial House, where she provided general services to the order. Surviving are several nieces, a nephew and cousins.
