Matilda Hlavay, 82, of Spring Valley, Calif., formerly of McDonald, died Friday, February 13, 1998, in Grossmont Hospital, Spring Valley, Calif. Mrs. Hlavay was a former member of St. Alphonsus Church of McDonald. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Paul J. Hlavay; five daughters, Betty J. Phillips of Oakdale, Paulette Kosarik of Alta-Loma, Calif., Theresa Barrett of Spring Valley, Charlotte Sica of Santee, Calif., and Lisa Simich of Slippery Rock; a son, Paul J. Hlavay of Midway; a brother, Stanley Zombeck of Cape Coral, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Deceased are an infant child; a son, Douglas Hlavay; and two brothers, Henry and Joseph Zombeck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, February 20, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, McDonald, with the Rev. Edward Trzeciakowski officiating. Interment in Holy Souls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, to the attention of Jim Bernauer, 300 East Swissvale Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15218.
