Charles E. Rettinger Sr., 48, of McDonald, died Saturday, January 31, 1998, in St. Clair Memorial Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. Mr. Rettinger was a 1967 graduate of Fort Cherry High School. Following high school, he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. For the last 20 years, he worked as a coal miner. He currently was employed by Cyprus Amax Minerals Company in Kirby. Mr. Rettinger was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church of McDonald. He was the commander of the McDonald American Legion Post 485 of McDonald and was a past second vice president of the McDonald Lions Club. He was involved in forming the Fort Cherry Youth Wrestling program and was also an Area One chairman of youth wrestling and the president of the Waynesburg Wrestling Association. He also was a coach of the Hickory Vikings midget football team. On August 18, 1967, he married Lura Jean Burkett Rettinger, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles E. Rettinger Jr. and Michael E. Rettinger, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Edward David Rettinger of North Kingsville, Ohio, and William J. Rettinger of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five sisters, Mary Ann Barnes of Greensboro, N.C., Dona L. Miller of Sykesville, Md., Peggy Dalla Piazza of McDonald, Kathy McCombs of Dubois and Gayle A. Sweetie of Burlington, N.C.; one grandson, Zackery Michael Rettinger; also 27 nieces and nephews and 27 great-nieces and great-nephews.
