Robert Lee Swaney, 79, of 230 Stockbridge Street, Gregory, Mich., formerly of Greene County, died Monday, February 23, 1998, at his home. Mr. Swaney worked as a coal miner for 41 years at the Republic Steel, Clyde Mine, Fredericktown, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Lippencott. On December 13, 1938, he married Dortha Mayle Swaney, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Rose Ellen Huey of Hamburg, Mich., Bonny Laraway of Southville, Mich., and Sharon Nagy of Pinckney, Mich.; three sons, William Swaney of Greensboro, Robin Lee Swaney of Waynesburg and Larry Swaney of Morgantown, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Swaney of Brownsville, Edwin, Ralph and Thomas Swaney all of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Lillian White of Fredericktown, Catherine DeBord of Streetsboro, Ohio, Gertrude Porter of Denbo and Carrie Davis of Castana, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
