Chesteria R. "Celie" Verholtz, 69, of Canonsburg, died Wednesday, February 4, 1998, at home following a four-month illness. Mrs. Verholtz lived in Canonsburg her entire life, where she was a member of St. Genevieve Worship Site of St. Patrick Parish and its Christian Mothers and Guild. She was a 1945 graduate of Canonsburg High School, a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 of Strabane and its Tuesday Night Bowling League, KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 153 of Strabane, Wednesday Village Green Golf League and Thursday Chippewa Golf League. Mrs. Verholtz enjoyed polka dancing and traveling. On April 15, 1950, she married Don Verholtz, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Smith of Washington, Donna Dittmar of Strabane and Patti Verholtz of Canonsburg; a son, J. D. Verholtz of Strabane; four grandchildren, Patrick Smith and Brandon, Christopher and Lauren Dittmar; two sisters, Anna Pacana of Hamtramck, Mich., and Florence James of Battle Creek, Mich.; four brothers, Frank Mals of Melbourne, Fla., Raymond Mals of Wilmette, Ill., Chester Mals of Dayton, Ohio, and Joseph Mals of Strabane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
