Michael "Barber Mike" Danchik Sr., 80, of Old National Pike, Fredericktown, (Centerville Borough), died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
Mr. Danchik retired in September 1985, after 171/2 years as a coal miner for A.T. Massey Co.'s Vesta No. 5 Mine. He also worked at J&L Steel's Vesta No. 4 Mine and was a member of UMWA Local Union 762 of Vestaburg.
He served in the U.S. Army during 1937-41, joined the Merchant Marine and served in the South Pacific, Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean before being discharged in 1949.
He was a barber in Richeyville for 24 years and was a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Richeyville.
He enjoyed fishing.
On July 28, 1951, he married Dorothy Timko, who survives and with whom he celebrated their 46th anniversary.
Also surviving are two daughters, Michelle Kessinger of Hagerstown, Md., Arleen Fedel of Canonsburg; a son, Michael Danchik Jr. at home; six grandsons, Darrell Bolen Sr., Jason, Matthew and Brian Marquart and Amber and Sarah Danchik; a great-grandson, Darrell Bolen Jr.; and a brother, Daniel Danchik Jr. of Annapolis, Md.
Deceased is a brother, Fred Dancheck.
