Michael L. Simkovic, 79, of Carmichaels, formerly of Nemacolin, died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 1998, at Uniontown Hospital. Mr. Simkovic was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church in Nemacolin, where he had served as an usher and on the parish council. He was employed as a mechanic at the U.S. Steel Robena Mine for 43 years before retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. 5th Army in World War II. He was a member of UMWA Robena Local 6321, Fort Mason American Legion Post 423 of Masontown, Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584 of Masontown and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 20 of Uniontown. He served for 20 years as president of Nemacolin Inc. and served on its board of directors for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Department. On February 29, 1956, he married Mercedes D. Hohenshell, who died January 28, 1996. Surviving are two sons, Jerome Simkovic of Carmichaels and Stanley Duane Kasmala of Dearborn, Mich.; two daughters, Barbara Hall of Levittown, N.Y., and Betty D. Janas of Ormond Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Andrew Simkovic of Carmichaels; three sisters, Anna Zdravecky of Nemacolin, Velma Kesock of Uniontown and Josephine Kozlowski of Nemacolin; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are one son, Michael T. Simkovic Jr.; one brother, Joseph J. Simkovic; and one sister, Mary Simkovic, who died in infancy.
