James A. Tedrow Sr., 80, of Second Street, Mather, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 1998, at his home, following a brief illness. Mr. Tedrow lived most of his life in Mather and was a member of Rolling Meadows Church of God, Waynesburg, where he was involved in church activities. He retired in 1981 after 43 years as a coal miner with Gateway Coal Company. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 88th Ordinance and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On July 31, 1948, he married Marjorie V. Bevans, who died August 30, 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Despot of Clarksville and J. Lorraine Shipley of Clarksville; three sons, James A., Robert R. and Thomas W. Tedrow Sr., all of Mather; a stepson, David Bevans of Bloomington, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Tedrow of Jefferson R.D. 1; three sisters, Beatrice Wheeler of Dewey, Ariz., Harriet Watson of McKees Rocks and Gloria Tedrow of Mather; and several nieces and nephews.
