Mary Hughes Hartley, 87, of Dover, Ohio, formerly a 33-year resident of Claysville, died Wednesday, January 21, 1998, in Hennis Nursing Home, Dover. Mrs. Hartley attended Claysville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and was employed by Somerville Bakery, Claysville, retiring in 1971. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known as 'grandma' to many young people in the Claysville area. On September 28, 1926, in Washington, she married Piercie S. Hartley, who died December 31, 1961. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Richey of Magnolia, Ohio; four granddaughters, Patty Hartley Shuman, Penelope "Penny" Henry Kennedy, Debbie Underwood and Kathy Mowery; and 10 great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Lloyd S. Hartley; a daughter, Marjorie H. Henry; four brothers, Earl, Lloyd and Charles "Jack" Hughes and John Hughes, who died in infancy; and four sisters, Alta Hughes Whiteman, Lillie Ferrell and Hazel Hughes Ritchea and Fern Hughes, who died in infancy.
