Veterans benefits counselor for 25 years
Ruth J. Throckmorton McDonald, 84, of Mt. Morris Star Route, Waynesburg, died at 5 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 1998, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 6, 1913, in Rogersville, a daughter of Samuel Rees and Alice Crouse Throckmorton.
Mrs. McDonald was a graduate of Waynesburg High School and a 1931 graduate of Penn State College. She was a benefits counselor with the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping veterans, their widows and dependent children. She first worked in the county Veterans Service Office in Imperial County, Calif., in 1950, as an assistant veterans services officer.
In 1960, she moved to Washington, D.C., and began to work for the main office of the Veterans Administration as a veteran benefits counselor for 251/2 years. She worked with veterans who had served in the Spanish-American War, Mexican Border Uprising, World War I, World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. She retired December 31, 1985, and then moved to Waynesburg.
Surviving are twin daughters, Jacqueline Camp and Geraldine Hebert both of Waynesburg; five grandchildren, Joy Camp Fordyce, Tammie S. Saario, Trinina Hebert Barreto, Thomas G. Camp and Ethan Throckmorton Camp; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian K. Throckmorton of Clearwater Beach, Fla. and Barbara J. Dean of Rogersville; and two nieces.
Deceased are her husband, James E. McDonald, who died July 27, 1977; two sons, James P. and William S. McDonald; and a sister, Helen Throckmorton who died in infancy.
