Word has been received of the death of William "Sarge" Clayton Thompson, 53, of Columbus, Ohio, who died December 6, 1997, in Columbus. Mr. Thompson served as an artillery operator with the U.S. Army from 1961-63 in Europe. He had worked at The Meadows race track for about eight years. On May 14, 1966, he married Louise Schmidt, who survives. Surviving are two sons, William Clayton Thompson II and Edward Campbell Thompson; three sisters, Fonya Kelley of Houston, Drucella Sickman of Townsville and Pamela Lennon of Canonsburg; and two brothers, Edward C. Thompson of Corry and Robert Thompson of Canonsburg. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
