Charles W. Harris, 76, of the Village of Malden, Brownsville, died Saturday, January 24, 1998, in his home. Mr. Harris spent his youth in Indianapolis, Ind. He was a member of the South Brownsville United Methodist Church, Brownsville Lodge No. 60 F&AM, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, Consistory of Pittsburgh Valley, the Bakewell-Phelps American Legion and the Syria Shrine Temple. He was a past president of the West Brownsville Borough Council. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps on an air rescue boat in the Philippines. Harris and his wife owned and operated the former Josephine's Store in West Brownsville. He was a bread salesman for more than 35 years, having served the following bakeries: the former Lincoln Bakery of West Brownsville, the former Liberty Bakery, the former Ward Tiptop Baking Co. and Stroehmann's Bakery. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 491 of Uniontown. He was also a member of the California University Senior Swim Club, and he enjoyed woodworking, boating and music. Surviving are a daughter, Charmaine J. Clark of West Brownsville; two sons, Perry A. Harris of Wyoming, Del. and Charles J. Harris of Village of Malden, Brownsville; five grandchildren, Rachel and Bryan Clark, Melanie Harris, and Jesse and Aaron Harris, all at home; and two nieces. Deceased are his wife of 53 years, Josephine "Kozy" Harris, who died October 26, 1997; and a sister, Margaret Dufalo.
