Harold L. "Tuffy" Martin, 77, of Lagonda, died unexpectedly at 3:45 a.m. Friday, January 30, 1998, in his home. Mr. Martin attended Jolly School, Lagonda Elementary and Trinity High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served with the 78th Armored Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. Mr. Martin was employed as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Columbia Gas Co. for 32 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of West Washington United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He was also a member of Sunset Lodge 623 F&AM, the Senior Citizens golf club of Maggi's and Route 19 Lanes Senior Citizens Bowling League. He was a charter member of South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, a former school director for McGuffey School District and former supervisor for South Franklin Township. On May 16, 1946, he married Geraldine E. Ravoira, who survives at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Vivian Hathaway and Donna Makel, both of Washington; a son, Barry Martin of Prosperity; four grandchildren, Kenneth Hathaway II, Kelly Rogers, Lea Bentz and Dennae Makel; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a granddaughter, Amy Louanne Bentz; two sisters, Mabel Poland and Naomi Zoller; and a brother, Paul Martin.
