John M. Vaughn

Charter member of Duncan Miller Glass Society

John M. Vaughn, 82, of Crest Vue Drive, Washington, died Sunday, January 4 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.

He was born August 12, 1915, in Washington, a son of James L. and Margaret McClellan Vaughn.

Mr. Vaughn was a lifelong member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church and attended Washington grade and high schools.

He was active since childhood with the Washington YMCA, participating in the swimming program and after service in World War II, gave certified Red Cross lifesaving instructions.

Mr. Vaughn was an original member of the Duncan Miller Glass Society, having worked at Duncan Miller Glass for 18 years until its closing. He was then employed by American Brakeshoe Company for 26 years until retirement.

During World War II, he served with the 77th U.S. Army Division, 302nd Engineers in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, Wa Cha Gree Forest No. 149 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Washington Lodge 164 F&AM, and the Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory.

Mr. Vaughn enjoyed water sports and fishing.

On December 9, 1949, he married Katherine A. Hufford, who survives.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
