James B.W. Murphy, 86, of Humbert Lane, Washington, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, in his home. Mr. Murphy was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church of Washington. He was a 1930 graduate of Trinity High School and a 1934 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Mr. Murphy was employed by Citizens' National Bank and by Dunn-Mar Oil Gas Company, both of Washington. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army for 21/2 years. On October 12, 1935, he married Mary Charity Martin Murphy, who died December 26, 1993. Surviving are a sister, Helen Donnan of Upper St. Clair; a niece, Marion Donnan Mahoney; and a nephew, Robert M. Donnan. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at Washington Cemetery. The family requests those wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to Washington County Humane Society or to First Presbyterian Church.
