Helen P. Jochynek, 68, of Jefferson Avenue, Washington, died at 5 a.m. Monday, July 20, 1998, following a 20-month illness. Mrs. Jochynek was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, Washington, and a graduate of Ellsworth High School and Penn Commercial, Washington. She was employed in the payroll department at Washington Hospital for several years. She also later served for many years as a local registrar for the state Vital Statistics department. Mrs. Jochynek was last employed in the Washington County tax assessment office, from which she retired July 2. Mrs. Jochynek was a former Trinity High School Band Parent. She also was very active in politics, serving as a Democratic committeewoman in Canton Township and a former member of the Democratic Women. She was a member of the Pulaski Club Women's Auxiliary. On August 18, 1951, she married John M. "Jasper" Jochynek. Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Jochynek, Doreen Diesel and Denise Lucas, all of Washington; a sister, Louise Puskavich of Bentleyville; three grandchildren, twins Ashley Rose and Kelli Ann Lucas and Alex Michael Diesel; and several nieces and nephews.
