John Michalka Jr., 71, of Midway, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in his home. Mr. Michalka was a 1945 graduate of Burgettstown High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was superintendent for United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 142, retiring in 1982. During his career, he was responsible for building European Health Spas and Shippingport Power Plant. He was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, Midway, where he was a member of the Mariner's group, and served as elder and chairman of the building committee, building the parsonage, church and education wing. Mr. Michalka was a member of Burgettstown Grange 1502, the Pennsylvania State Grange, Midway Senior Citizens and served on the Center Cemetery board of which he was past treasurer. On April 29, 1950, he married Rebecca (Becky) Campbell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Rodney J. of Belton, Mo., and John W. of Canonsburg; two daughters, Marilyn Egan of Cranberry Township and Roberta Cadman of Pearland, Texas; five grandchildren, Rebekah Hough, Matthew Cadman and Joseph, Holly and Jay Michalka; a brother, Method Michalka of Meadow Lands; and a sister, Ann Lescallette of New Lexington, Ohio.
