Irena Bonham Ames, 88, of Redstone Court Condominiums, Washington, formerly of Eighty Four R.D.2, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 1998, in her home. In 1939, she married C. E. (Gene) Ames, who died in 1983. Mrs. Ames was a graduate of Trinity High School and California Normal School (now California University of Pa.). Her 30-year teaching career began in a one-room schoolhouse in Amwell Township. She taught at Independent and Peters Township, retiring in June 1971, after teaching elementary school for 15 years in the Canon-McMillan School District. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and a lifelong member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Cursi of Leesburg, Va., and Ghyneth Rowdon of Sterling, Va.; six grandchildren, Christopher and Cara Cursi and Beverly, Barbara, Kenneth and Douglas Rowdon.
