Margaret A. Winston, 83, of 815 South Main Street, Washington, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Presbyterian Medical Center- Washington. She was a member of the New Hope Babtist Church. She is retired, and was a volunteer for the Red Cross, the president of the PTA of North Franklin Elementary School, a member of Eastern Star, the missionary society of the New Hope Baptist Church, the NAACP, and was a former judge of election in Washington County. She was also on the United Mine Workers advisory board, was a former chair director at Nazareth Baptist Church and the New Hope Baptist Church. She was a lifelong member of the Democratic party, a member of the National Baptist Convention, a volunteer at Trinity High School and the Presbyterian Medical Center. Mrs. Winston was a volunteer for many charities. Her hobbies include reading and music. Her husband was Matthew Winston, who is deceased. Surviving are three sons, McCoy F.D.R. Winston of Chesapeake, Va., Arnold Welchie Winston of San Diego, Calif., and Robin Eugene Winston of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Mildred Tuckson of Harriosnburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is one son, Matthew Winston; four brothers, Ned, Eugene, Howard and Dallas McCormick; two sisters who died at infancy, Lorraine and Dora McCormick; and two additional sisters, Murtle Dixon and Ruby McCormick.
